This month's tip is about course management. One of the ways you can lower your score without even taking a lesson is to improve the way you manage your round from tee to green. Many times we just get up and tee off or hit our approach shots and don't even think about where we are hitting the shot. Here are just a few tips that will help lower your scores.

If you fade the ball, tee up on the right side of the tee, which gives you more room to work the ball from left to right.  If you draw the ball tee up on the left side of the tee. (If you are left handed just reverse this process)

On your approach to the green check the pin location. Let's assume it is tucked behind a bunker and to the right of the green. Instead of taking dead aim at the flag aim for the center of the green. If you miss it right you are closer to the pin, if you miss it left you have a lot more green to work with on your next shot. Many times players short side themselves which leads to a bogey or worse!

On the putting surface work on making sure your putts have enough speed to roll past the hole if they don't fall into the cup. At least that way you can watch the ball roll past the cup and have an idea of what your next putt will do. If you leave putts way short you still don't know how the ball will roll the rest of the way to the cup, this can lead to more three putts.

Course management is a vital part of this game yet it is often overlooked or taken for granted. During your next round try these tips and see if it makes a difference.
